The Revd T. Aneurin Davies: 1918-2013

A faithful pastor of his people and a fine pulpit orator and teacher

The Revd T. Aneurin Davies who died on 11 May 2013, aged 95 years old was born at the close of the 1st World War in Hendy, Pontardulais in South Wales.  A scholarly man of extraordinary ability. He was ordained at Tywyn Baptist church in Merionethshire before taking up the pastorate of Seion Baptist church, Nefyn and Calfaria Baptist church Morfa Nefyn on the Lleyn peninsular. He was a faithful pastor of his people and a fine pulpit orator and teacher and his exposition of Scripture was always well prepared and presented.

Therefore it wasn’t surprising that he ventured into the field of education and taught Religious Studies at Holyhead Comprehensive School for a number of years where generations of school children benefited from his academic ability.

Throughout this time he never faltered in his readiness to serve the churches of his beloved Anglesey as well as those on the mainland of North Wales. He also forged solid and lasting friendships with colleague ministers upon the island that were to stand the test of time.  He settled at Menai Bridge and became a mainstay within the Baptist church fellowship at Moriah.

A quiet man with a warm and sincere disposition who never sought attention or esteem; he was committed and solid in his faith and served his Lord and Saviour with an unflinching loyalty and faithfulness. His Bible and prayer life were his daily ration and fortitude.

He leaves a son, Penri to mourn his passing and there never was a closer partnership of love and dedication between father and son than there was between Aneurin and Penri. We extend to Penri and to members of the family our heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences in their loss. His private funeral was held at Bangor Crematorium on the 21 May, 2013 and his ashes interred at Coetmor Cemetery. Bethesda. The Revd Iwan Llewellyn Jones led the memorial service and presented the eulogy.
