The Revd Brian Stenner: 1931-2025

Took early retirement from working in a City bank to become a Baptist minister

Brian StennerBrian was born in Surrey where he grew up in the village of Fetcham. He attended a local independent evangelical church and became a Christian through attending the Sunday school classes held there. Brian found work in a City bank and married Janet, who he had known since she was a baby. Brian and Janet were blessed with three children.

In 1981 he took early retirement from the bank and enrolled as a student at the London Bible College. After graduating, he became co-pastor of a lively and popular Baptist church in Welwyn Garden City. These were his golden years and both he and Janet were extremely busy, but also very fulfilled in their work.

Brian moved next to Harefield Baptist and eventually to Parkfields in Halstead, where his son Jonathon also lived. Brian eventually retired and began a new career as a volunteer police chaplain in Sudbury, the town he eventually retired to.

Brian maintained his preaching in many different rural churches during his retirement. He lost his beloved wife in 2024 and eventually died peacefully after a long hospital visit in May 2025.
