Charity Registration Consultation

The application to register BUGB as a CIO with the Charity Commission was given approval on 2 January 2019.  The CIO is registered with new charity number 1181392. A copy of the registered Constitution can be read here.  The process to transfer the assets, liabilities and activities of the unincorporated Baptist Union charity to the new CIO is now underway.

By way of background, the CIO
Constitution was approved by the BUGB Trustees on 20 February 2018, by Council on 14 March 2018 and finally by Assembly on 12 May 2018. All of the resolutions put to Assembly 2018 were agreed unanimously. Copies of these are available from the links below with an explanation for the resolutions.

Earlier in the process BUGB members were invited to participate in a consultation (which closed on 31 January 2018) about the draft Constitution for the new BUGB Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).  A letter from Lynn Green dated 6 November 2017 to members gave the background to the incorporation process and the decisions taken so far. As a result of the consultation, some revisions were made to the draft BUGB CIO Constitution.

Unincorporated BUGB Charity

The current BUGB Constitution was revised with Assembly approval in May 2018 to provide for the transfer of the assets, liabilities and activities to the new CIO and notice of a resolution was put to the Assembly in May 2019 in relation to the Constitution of the unincorporated “shell” BUGB charity after incorporation is completed.

It is proposed that the transfer will coincide with BUGB's financial year end on 31 December 2019.  Since it is only appropriate to adopt the Constitution for the unincorporated "shell" BUGB once the assets, liabilities and activities have transferred to BUGB CIO, the resolution proposed at the 2019 Assembly to effect the changes to the unincorporated BUGB Constitution will be brought to the 2020 Assembly for approval.
