Personal - it's your calling too
Rupert Lazar's presidential theme ‘Anointed to do good’
draws from Acts 10:38:
‘... how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the
power of the devil, because God was with him.’
Within this theme, Rupert explores six key areas:
Friends as I think on this verse Acts 10:38, I am reminded that all believers are called and are equipped to follow Jesus' example. Jesus is our Lord and Master and we are the people of his kingdom who are called and set apart, anointed to live by his example and values.
I think of Jesus’ words just before his ascension Acts 1:8 when he promised the same supernatural power to accomplish our mission.
I know that the Christian life is both the agony of the cross of Calvary as well as the empty tomb of Gethsemane. So it is pain as well as victory. Having said that, my sisters and brothers, we Christians are not weak, defenceless people but instead we are powerful people who carry Jesus with us wherever we go. When we truly understand for example Jesus’ declaration that we are salt and light then we will live knowing that we stop/hold back the rut in our world and we push back the darkness and despair of Satan.
I do believe that we are set apart and given the Holy Spirit and power, just like Jesus, that we may live a life demonstrating God’s love. We have been given the Holy Spirit and power to do good. Do not anyone tell you otherwise and DO NOT let Satan deceive you. Hear again the words of Jesus recorded for us in John’s gospel (14:12) ‘I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things’. Isn’t that incredible!
Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:16, ‘let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven’.
Acts 10:38 makes it clear that Jesus was able to do good because God was with him. Likewise we are told by Matthew (28:20) that as we go about the business of making disciples/doing good, God will be with us.
This is our calling too!
