Small Church Connexion retreat day
Small church leaders took time out to connect and hear God in different ways at a retreat day in London, writes Hilary Taylor

‘Come away with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’ This verse from Mark 6 shaped our retreat day held in London in July.
Westbourne Park Baptist Church were amazing hosts for the small church leaders who came. We were graciously led by the Revd Jo Allen (joint CEO Rural Ministries/pioneer vicar).
After prayer and worship led by Kirsten to focus the day, we each chose one picture from a collection of images, reflecting where we are now in our walk with Jesus. We each shared why we had chosen this picture, before looking at them all again, this time choosing one which reflecting where we would like to be. After this, we gathered in groups of 3-4 to share and pray for each other.
After a break, we used the Ignatian method of delving into scripture, using the Mark 6: 30-33 passage. We each shared a word or phrase which had jumped out for us, before spending time in personal quiet prayer.
Fellowship over lunch was followed by listening to music while painting drawing, creating and conversation around tables.
We concluded the day in worship and prayer, feeling refreshed and so glad we had set aside a time to be quiet in our hectic schedule to hear God in different ways.
Thanks to Jo for leading and for Small Church Connexion LB for organising us.
