Malee: the little miracle

It’s a phenomenal story. Find out how a young girl born with severe medical conditions had her life completely transformed through the help of BMS World Mission work at Hope Home in Thailand

Little Malee* had a difficult start in the world. The list of medical conditions that she was born with was quite long: multiple organ damage, slow brain development, heart and liver problems and slow growth.

These medical challenges were especially tough for Malee’s 15-year-old mum. She couldn’t afford to get her daughter the medications that she needed. The future looked grim.

Malee’s mum felt she couldn’t care for her, and so she turned Malee over to the state in Thailand. As hard as it was, it would end up resulting in a miracle for Malee.

The social welfare department in Thailand wanted to get Malee into Hope Home – a care home for children with severe disabilities, founded by a BMS mission worker. Fortunately, there was an opening for Malee and when she was 1 ½ years old she arrived at Hope Home to begin a journey that would transform her life.

Care takers quickly got her treatment and the medications that she so desperately needed. The great thing about Malee’s condition was that it turned out to be very treatable – once she got on the right medication all of her organ damage reversed! It was a miracle.

“It’s been a privilege to work with Malee,” says Judy Cook, a BMS mission worker and the founder of Hope Home. “It’s been amazing to see a child improving, rather than the slow development that we so often see with more profoundly disabled children that we care for.”

Today, Malee is three years old and thriving. She has some slow development and hearing problems but, beyond that, all of her medical problems have gone away. Malee’s life has been completely transformed. And on top of that, she is now in the process of being adopted – something that doesn’t always happen for children who come to Hope Home.

Stories like Malee’s inspire Judy to continue sharing God’s love with these special children.

“I’ve always had a heart for children with special needs,” says Judy. “I believe they bring something extra special with them. I love being able to help them and pour God’s love into their lives.”

Please pray for Malee. Pray that the adoption goes through smoothly. Also pray that the workers at Hope Home are able to prepare her well for this transition.
