BWA Human Rights Day

Baptists encouraged to "commit to the cause of human rights in their communities"

BWA Human Rights300Baptist World Alliance (BWA) Human Rights Day will be observed on December 6 and 7, depending on whether Baptists worship on Saturday or Sunday.

The observance coincides with the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that was adopted by the United Nations on December 10, 1948.

During this year's commemoration, Baptists are encouraged to commit to the cause of human rights in their communities, countries and around the world through prayer, advocacy and representation; to repent of complicity in human rights abuses through negligence or participation; and to give voice to the voiceless, hope to the hopeless and to broker peace where peace is lacking.

The intention is to have the greatest amount of Baptists worldwide observing Human Rights Day as part of the Advent celebration.

Baptist churches and institutions are encouraged to incorporate the Human Rights Day Litany in their worship services and other activities.

The litany and other resources are available on the BWA website.

Congregations are encouraged to share their Human Rights Day experiences on the BWA Facebook group page, on Twitter using the handle @TheBWA, or by emailing communications@bwanet.org
