Baptists Together welcomes the Revd Diane Watts as Faith & Society Team Leader
We are delighted to announce the permanent appointment of Revd Diane Watts as the Team Leader for the Faith & Society Team, one of the four Specialist Teams based at Baptist House.
Diane started her career in banking as a consultant with Noble Lowndes and then moved into teaching, specialising in history and politics, and becoming a member of the Senior Management Team and Head of the Lower school for Whitgift School in Croydon.
She was called into ministry, in 2007, attending Spurgeon's College for her ministerial training and becoming an accredited Baptist minister in 2010 after completing her Masters degree in Christian Faith and Practice and a Post Graduate Diploma in Theology, Ministry and Mission. After completing her studies she was called to the role of Team Leader and Associate Minister at Selsdon Baptist Church.
After seven years in local pastorate she was asked to launch and lead a new charity, Together in Sussex, founded as a joint venture between the Church Urban Fund and the Diocese of Chichester. Diane led the charity in its community development work, including responses to homelessness, poor mental health, housing, modern slavery, loneliness and isolation. Working locally to advise churches on opportunities for social action and faith, she also engaged with teams at national level with Together Free, the Church Urban Fund and the Joint Public Issues Team.
Since February 2020, Diane has been working in an interim capacity as the Faith & Society Team Leader, coordinating the work of the nine members of the Faith & Society Team and supporting the work of Baptists Together as we have responded to the challenges and demands of the coronavirus pandemic.
Lynn Green, General Secretary, commented: “Diane brings a wealth of wisdom and experience to this significant and wide-reaching role within our Baptist family and I am delighted to announce her appointment. She is already a valued colleague and is making a great contribution to many teams across Baptists Together. Please join with me in praying for her and supporting her in all that lies ahead so that Diane, and our whole movement, might flourish through her ministry.”
Diane is looking forward to continuing to work alongside churches, associations, colleges and the other Specialist Teams. Reflecting on her new appointment she observes: “It has been a privilege to work with the amazing Faith and Society team over the last few months. This is a challenging time for our Baptist community and for the Church, but I am excited to see and hear where God leads us in this season."
