A Fine Show of Talent!
They say Britain’s got talent – well take it from me, the YBA has!
I’ve just spent a very enjoyable evening at Lee Mount Baptist Church in Halifax watching Cabaret ’13 – a fundraising evening of food, music and comedy in aid of Home Mission and BMS World Mission.
The evening began with a meal of soup and bread, baked potatoes with a choice of toppings plus salad followed by sponge and custard – not bad for a fiver considering there was entertainment to follow. The meal was served by the singers who, after a quick change, presented a varied programme of songs interspersed with comedy and a poem set to music. The songs included 'Downtown', 'You’ve lost that loving feeling', 'Those were the days', 'Blue Moon', 'Delilah', 'Unchained Melody' and 'The Last Waltz' – to name a few.
It was a colourful show produced by one of the members Mike Aspinall, who has produced many cabaret evenings and variety shows over the years. Mike was joined by his son Torban in singing a very moving song 'Bring Him Home' from the musical 'Les Miserables'.
Cabaret ’13 was presented over three evenings and has raised about £800. The minister the Revd Terry Hepworth explained how the proceeds would be spent in this country feeding the hungry, clothing the naked (in other words, doing what Jesus tells us to do) as well as helping meet needs overseas.
