Important DBS Update Information for Verifiers

The DBS now requires that the terms 'Children’s workforce', 'Vulnerable Adults workforce' or 'children and vulnerable adults workforce' are added to the role indicated in section X61 on the DBS form in order to aid police in determining the type of relevant information to release and for purposes of the forthcoming Online Update service.

There are two key areas to the new Update Service also being introduced:

a. Individuals intending to subscribe to the online update system via e-bulk must first apply for a criminal record check and then use their disclosure reference number to register for the update service; this will need to be done within 14 days of receipt of disclosure.

b. Individuals using the paper-based route can apply for their DBS checks and subscribe to the online update service simultaneously without having to wait for the disclosure to come through. All they need for registration purposes is their application form reference number.
