Letter from the President of the European Baptist Federation re: Georgia

Friday 15 August 2008

Dear EBF family,

I am writing you about the situation in Georgia and would like to call all of you to pray.

It is with great sadness and concern that we in the EBF are following what is happening in Georgia. We want to assure our Georgian brothers and sisters of our prayerful support. Also whatever we can do to ease the humanitarian crisis they are facing, we are ready and committed to do in correspondence with the Evangelical Baptist Church in Georgia. All our EBAid partners have been contacted to see what can be done from the financial point of view.

At this moment the correspondence with Georgia is not easy to establish because of the damage to the infrastructure. Nevertheless, we are doing our best to keep in contact with the Baptist leadership.

We condemn every use of force and violence in solving conflicts. That way of solving problems always harvests innocent people’s lives and brings a huge tragedy. Especially we from Croatia are very aware of what our brothers and sisters are going through. A few years back we were in the same position.

There is no alternative to dialog. That is why we are asking our Lord to stop this wrong, unnecessary and tragic war, and bring people together around the same table for finding a peaceful solution.

We are praying that the Lord will protect all the innocent people and work in the hearts and minds of those who planned and started this disaster. Our prayer is also that the Lord will be close to those who mourn because of the loss of their loved ones. We pray that the Lord will help all the victims to have a spirit of forgiveness and thus fight against evil. We pray that the Lord will turn this disaster into a possibility for many to find the Saviour.

Although in the midst of the horror of war, we believe our brothers and sisters are not alone. Our Lord, the Lord of Hosts is with them, and I’m asking you, the rest of EBF family, to pray and support them also.

If there is a possibility that you could help in any way, please contact our EBF Office in Prague.

May the Lord bless and protect you.

Toma Magda,
President of EBF
