Churches and Music – New Licence Arrangements

We have received some queries about a new copyright licence called a PPL licence which is a licence for playing sound recordings at church activities.  Acts of worship will be exempt.  New legislation was introduced on 1 January requiring churches to purchase this new licence but there is an official ‘period of grace’ and the licence will not be required until 1 January 2012.

The new licence will be available to purchase from October and CCLI, through whom churches normally purchase their copyright licences, will be in touch.

We will need to update our guideline leaflet C10 Licensing for Entertainment and Copyright once details are clearer.

More information can be found on the CCLI website here:  http://ccli.co.uk/pdfs/ppl-leaflet1.pdf

  • 1 Corinthians 1:10
“[A Church Divided Over Leaders] I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.”
