The Baptist Pension Scheme - roadshows
A new series of pension roadshows has been organised for ministers, church officers and employees eligible to join the staff section of the Scheme. Representatives from Legal & General (which has been appointed to operate the new defined contribution arrangements) and the Baptist Union of Great Britain will present information and answer questions on the operation of the Baptist Pension Scheme, which will come into effect from 1 January 2012.
These roadshows will be covering different issues from those held in the spring of this year as part of the consultation process. They will include information on:
- how the Scheme will work
- the range of funds available for the investment of members’ pension accounts
- decisions that members will need to make
- the use of Legal & General’s internet facilities for Scheme members
- the responsibilities of church treasurers in respect of the Scheme.
One roadshow will take place in each Association, and one in Scotland, as shown below, though all are welcome to attend any that they are able – even if it’s not your local Association. All will start at 1pm, unless stated otherwise, and are expected to last two and a half hours. It is hoped to provide tea and coffee at each venue and you are welcome to bring a packed lunch.

Although information from the roadshows will be placed on the BUGB website to assist those who are unable to attend any of the roadshows, it would be much better to attend if you can.
More information about the Scheme is due to be sent in advance of the roadshows to current members of the Baptist Ministers’ Pension Fund and the Baptist Union Staff Pension Scheme and to church treasurers. Forms in respect of the new defined contributions will need to be returned to the Pensions Office at Baptist House by 30 November 2011.
