It is with deep sadness and huge personal regret that I write to tell you that it has become necessary for the directors to cancel Leading Edge for this year.
The Leading Edge planning group had developed a very exciting event for 2011 based around the theme of ‘Step out of the Traffic- Refuelling for living’. Many, many hours of prayer and planning had gone into the Programme and activities for all the age groups, and there was a growing anticipation and excitement amongst the Event Leadership Team and volunteers . Sadly this is only half of the story.
We have, probably due to many reasons, seen a sharp reduction in the number of people booking in for the event; in fact paying guests are down by more than a third and income from bookings down 47%. Despite reducing the expenditure substantially, we have eaten through our reserves and have also spent a grant we received. To proceed would mean Leading Edge would be insolvent and unable to meet substantial financial liabilities. This is not something that we could do legally.
A decision like this is never taken lightly. Last year we heard the passion of guests for Leading Edge and the call to keep the event going. Sadly this has not led through to the increase in bookings we had hoped for, but as stated above in fact a substantial decrease.
We know that for every person who was committed to coming to Leading Edge this was a substantial part of their summer plans, and we recognize the deep pain that this will cause. By making this decision now we are able to refund all deposits and payments made in full. We know that this not ideal, and is with deep sorrow, and our own personal sense of bereavement that we have come to this decision.
