A new guidance to help with the completion of the CRB application form has been published. The guidance is split into two separate guides, one for applicants and one for Countersignatories, and both carefully explain the steps that must be taken to ensure that the application form is completed correctly, which should minimise errors and prevent application forms from being returned.
The new guidance has been produced to replace the top tips guidance that was published earlier this year, which was introduced as an interim measure following the introduction of the new form. It also provides information that was previously included in the e-guide. It has been developed to provide customers with a comprehensive understanding of the key points to remember when completing the application form.
When asking an individual to apply for a CRB check, Countersignatories should direct all applicants to ‘An applicant's guide to completing the CRB application form’, which is available on the Directgov website. The applicant’s guide provides general rules for applicants, from how to record current and previous names and address history through to returning the completed form to the Countersignatory.

Once the application form has been completed by the applicant and returned, the Countersignatory should then refer to the ‘Countersignatory’s guide to completing the CRB application form’ which supports the applicant’s guidance and provides general rules about checking an applicant’s identity, the level of check to apply for and checking and signing the form. This guidance is available to download on the Business Link site.
