ATTRACTIVE design and imaginative content were key features in this year’s communication awards, jointly run by the Baptist Union of Great Britain and The Baptist Times.
The winners of the annual awards, now in their fourth year, were announced at the Baptist Assembly in Blackpool.
The inaugural best church notice sheet went to Romford Baptist Church in Essex.
"This stood out because it simply didn’t look a typical church notice sheet," said Baptist Times news editor Paul Hobson, a member of the voting panel.
"It was colourful and easy on the eye, but full of information which was presented in a really attractive way."
The best magazine went to Fellowship, of Holland Road Baptist Church in Hove.
The magazine’s content helped it to take first prize, said Mr Hobson.
"The editorial imagination which went into this magazine was outstanding.
"It was extremely readable, but more importantly it was packed with features that is clearly helping the fellowship know itself better."
Finally the best church website – decided by a public online vote – went to www.tabspenarth.org.uk, the site of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Penarth. "This site is modern, fun and easy to navigate. As more and more people’s first contact with a church is via a website, it is important to leave a good impression – and this certainly does that," said Mr Hobson.
Tabernacle Baptist was also a runner up in the magazine category. Minister the Revd Roger Grafton said the church was delighted to receive the recognition. ‘Communication with those outside the church as well as with those who are members is a high priority for us, and both the website and magazine are designed with this purpose in mind.
"We are blessed at Tabs to have both a professional web designer and a professional magazine editor in our membership, and their talents are greatly appreciated."
