Council

The Baptist Union Council meets every March and November. It consists of some 200 members mostly drawn from churches, Associations, colleges and co-opted delegates. At Council the work of the Union and issues facing it are reported on and discussed. Council works in conjunction with the newly formed Trustee Board and through a series of committees which oversee the work of Mission, Ministry, Faith and Unity and other specialist areas.

Council Agenda Headlines

Baptist Union Council 12 - 14 March 2012

The Baptist Union of Great Britain Council meets in Swanwick from the 12 - 14 March. The Agenda will include a mix of Reports from Committees, the Baptist Union Trustees and the Mission Forum. At this Council significant space has been made in the programme to pray together, discuss and discern what God might be saying at this time concerning how we move forward 'Working together – seeking the future'.

On the Monday the Agenda is mainly focused on reports from the Trustee Board, the Faith and Unity Executive, the Ministry Executive, The Baptist Times, The Baptist Union Corporation, the Retired Baptist Ministers Housing Scheme, Baptist  Holiday Fellowship. There will also be an update regarding the Pension Schemes. In the evening the Mission Forum will offer updates on current initiatives including The Big Welcome, Get in the Picture.

The Agenda on Tuesday and Wednesday will focus entirely on the BUGB Future Consultation process called   'Working together – seeking the future'. These sessions will begin and end in a time of prayer and worship. The more detailed programme for this item is still under development. Following Council the Futures Group will continue moving this process forward in consultation with others. (There will be time at the Baptist Assembly in London on the Sunday afternoon to hear more about this, pray together and engage together).

Your prayers will be greatly valued by those who attend Council. Please pray that we will hear the mind of Christ in all we discuss and that we will know His leading in decisions made.

  • 1 Corinthians 1:10
“[A Church Divided Over Leaders] I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.”
