2011 is the 400th anniversary of the 'King James' translation of the Bible.

Biblefresh is an initiative with over a hundred partners: conferences, festivals, exhibitions, museums, schools, parliament, arts, media - all engaging in the biblical text today, both in the church and the wider community. Local 'Churches Together' groups could host an exhibition ... engage with a school project ... hold a 'scriptorium' ... produce resources and join in with national initiatives etc.  It presents a unique opportunity for the Church to focus its attention on the Word of God.

For more information see the Biblefresh website.

Use 2011 to take the E100 challenge from Biblefresh

“I’ve read bits of the Bible but I don’t really know how they all fit together.”

“I love the Bible. I’d like some help to understand it better and how it applies to my life today.”

“I’ve never read the Bible much but I’m interested in finding out more of what’s in it.”

The E100 Bible Reading Challenge is designed to respond to comments like these!  The challenge is to read 100 carefully selected, essential, short Bible passages - 50 from the Old Testament and 50 from the New Testament. The passages are usually one to two chapters in length and can easily be read in 10 minutes or less.  It can be used by churches together or individuals on their own and all the resources are free.

Are you up for the challenge?  Check out www.e100challenge.org.uk and think how you could use this challenge in your church.

This film tells the exciting story of how the King James Bible came into being - from the dangers and intrigues of the Court of the Virgin Queen, through battling Bishops and squabbling scholars to 17th century terrorists and their infamous 'Gunpowder Plot'.  The story-teller in this entertaining 90 minute drama-documentary is actor John Rhys-Davies, well known as Gimli in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings. Directed by Norman Stone (Shadowlands) and with screenplay by Murray Watts (The Miracle Maker).

Bible Gateway's Verse of the Day
  • 1 Corinthians 1:10
“[A Church Divided Over Leaders] I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.”
