What is the BIG Welcome?

According to Tearfund, 3 million people would come to church if only they were invited.  We hope that through the simple word Welcome local churches will find ways to invite people into their church.  This may be through a Sunday service, a special Sunday lunch, Cafe Church, a concert or whatever.  The important thing is that you invite people by personal invitation and when they respond you make them feel very welcome.

 

In September 2011, around 3000 people were invited to Baptist churches for a BIG Welcome event.  This year, we are planning something even bigger, and working in partnership with Elim and Methodist churches throughout the country.  We hope and pray that even more people will be invited to a special BIG Welcome event in 2012.


The BIG Welcome 2012

This year we are particularly encouraging churches to plan a BIG Welcome service on Sunday 23 September, although churches may plan other BIG Welcome events at any time of year!

We want everyone to know that there’s a space for them in your church, so this year’s publicity centres around the image of a jigsaw puzzle. We hope and pray that you will be inspired by the designs and find ways to use the resources in creative ways.  We are using the theme of welcoming the prodigal this year, and a variety of flexible resources are available, suitable for you to use at your Sunday service and at other times.  Please order your resources by 30 June.

This year we have set up a new BIG Welcome website with our partner organisations.  Visit the new BIG Welcome website to find all you need to help you offer a big welcome, including online ordering for this year's resources.  Additional creative and flexible service resources will be available nearer the time from the BIG Welcome website for those churches which have registered to take part in this year's BIG Welcome.
