Your legacy can be made in several ways. For example:
You may specify a fixed sum of money, which will be the amount bequeathed to Home Mission regardless of any differences in inflation between the time you draw up your will and the execution of your will.
Or,
You may request that the whole, or a stated proportion of the balance of your estate, goes to Home Mission, after any other specific legacies and bequests have been deducted.
Legacies given to any charity are paid before Inheritance Tax is calculated, and therefore reduce the amount of that tax that may be payable. To ensure that your legacy does go to Home Mission, your will should be drawn up by a Solicitor.
To give a legacy to Home Mission, the will should include the following wording:
'I give to the Baptist Union of Great Britain, 129 Broadway, Didcot Oxfordshire OX11 BRT, for the Home Mission Fund, the sum of £.. The receipt of the Treasurer or other Officer of the Charity shall be a sufficient discharge for my executors. '
or,
'I give to the Baptist Union of Great Britain, 129 Broadway, Didcot, Oxfordshire OX11 BRT, for the Home Mission Fund, the residue of my estate [or a specified proportion of it} for its general purposes. The receipt of the Treasurer or other Officer of the Charity shall be a sufficient discharge for my executors. '
