In 1996, all members of the denomination were consulted on what they felt we needed to be doing as a Union. As a result a special Task Group was set up to reflect on the sort of Christ-centred people as Baptist Christians we ought to be. Following Jesus in engaging in worship and prayer which inspire and undergird all we are and do.Exploring and expressing what it means to live together as the people of God, obeying his Word and following Christ in the whole of daily life.

The resulting document - Five Core Values for a Gospel People- came up with the values below which the BUGB have followed since 1998:
