In 1996, all members of the denomination were consulted on what they felt we needed to be doing as a Union. As a result a special Task Group was set up to reflect on the sort of Christ-centred people as Baptist Christians we ought to be. Following Jesus in transcending barriers of gender, language, race, class, age and culture.Identifying with those who are rejected, deprived and powerless.

The resulting document - Five Core Values for a Gospel People- came up with the values below which the BUGB have followed since 1998:
