In his December Blog our General Secretary, Jonathan Edwards, Jonathan wrote (For full version - click here).
‘At November 2011’s Baptist Union Council the Treasurer summarized our present financial situation. In short we anticipate that it is likely that by the end of this year there will be a deficit of about one million pounds. This sobering news concentrated the mind of Council and it was resolved to set up a Futures Group to reflect on the way forward, consult as widely as possible with people from every part of our Baptist constituency and to bring firm proposals to the Council meetings in 2012. Our aim is to re-imagine what Christ is calling us to do as a Baptist people in the UK, prioritise key areas of our shared life and mission and in doing that move towards a balanced budget.’
The Futures Group has now been set up and is made up of all 13 Association Regional Minister Team Leaders, the Baptist Union trustees, the Senior Management Team from the National Resource at Baptist House, five Baptist College Principals and representatives from BMS World Mission. At its latest meeting on 13 December, the Group began to map out what it sees as the way forward in the process of seeking to help Baptist Christians in the UK re-imagine and prioritise our shared life and mission. The first task is to initiate a thorough process of wide consultation which is why we are contacting you.
Please take time over the next month to pray, and then complete this online survey. Please respond by 30 January 2012 when the survey will close. We hope this gives you plenty of time to pray and reflect on your feedback.
Responses will be collated and discussed by the Futures Group in readiness for Baptist Union Council in March 2012. There may be further opportunities for your participation in this process of consultation and hope where appropriate you might complete further online questionnaires as we begin to narrow our focus.
