CMCS Workshops

CMCS counsellors are reminded that in the three-yearly re-registration process, attending at least one Workshop in the previous three years will be expected.

Workshops in 2024: Fundamentalist religious childhoods and adult health: Implications for practice in one-to-one therapeutic encounters

This workshop will introduce attendees to this often-neglected topic within counselling and psychotherapy. Based on her doctoral research, facilitator Gill Harvey will provide an overview of the emergent advantages and disadvantages of a fundamentalist religious upbringing within the Abrahamic religions. The impact on wellbeing that emerged from the co-researchers’ stories will also be outlined and implications for practice explored. This will be an interactive and experiential workshop that will include working with case studies and discussing key issues such as how the inherent power imbalance might impact the work with a client who has grown up in a strict and controlling religious environment.
