Rachel Stone joined us earlier this month (July 2014) as our Human Resources Manager, working as part of the National Resources Team. Rachel will be heading up our HR and Safeguarding work.
Rachel joins us from Smith & Williamson, where she was a Partner and Head of HR Consulting. There she led a team of specialists providing practical guidance on HR and employment law, as well as advising managers on getting the best from their teams. In this capacity, she has worked as the HR Advisor to the Baptist Union for the last two years, helping us to manage the recent restructuring at Didcot, and also advising a number of churches on HR matters.
Rachel has wide experience supporting organisations from the private, public and charities sectors, and she provides specialist advice on complex employment issues at all levels, including employment tribunal claims. She is also an accredited MBTI practitioner, working with individuals and teams to support their development and improved effectiveness.
Starting her career with five years at Sun Alliance Insurance Group, Rachel dealt with personnel policy and systems across the UK. She spent six years as Head of HR and a member of the Management Team at a local authority, again specialising in personnel and training as well as leading the authority through Investors in People accreditation and the introduction of NVQs.
In 1996 Rachel moved to become Development Director of a UK management consultancy network, Priority Management, recruiting and supporting new regional directors, coaching them in business, communication and management training skills, and working at senior level with clients in the UK and worldwide.
Rachel is a lively and engaging speaker and trainer on employment and people management issues. She is looking forward to working closely to provide support to our Associations and churches.
Living just outside Bristol, she is married to Clive, and has one son, William. Rachel attends Hebron Evangelical Church where she is the worship group leader and one of the trustees. She was a member at Farnham Baptist Church for 20 years, and at Priory Street Baptist Church in Corsham for seven years before moving to Bristol in 2004.
David Locke, Finance Director and Team Leader for Support Services at our Baptist Union said, 'We are delighted to announce the appointment of someone of Rachel’s calibre to further strengthen our Union’s Support Services team. She has a strong track record in all aspects of HR and her experience will be invaluable as we continue to move forward.'
