Planning a Covid Christmas

One of the themes for the Small Church Connexion webinar in November was Christmas and how to bring the good news of Jesus within the unusual context of 2020, reports Hilary Taylor

AdventChristmas CardKen Benjamin of London Institute for Contemporary Christianity brought five different angles for the Christmas message which can be viewed on this link: youtube.com/watch?v=9g89aMVyFeM

Other ideas from small churches have included:

  • Decorate houses with nativity posters and lights
  • Artwork at the church on windows.
  • Church open for private prayer with nativity prayer stations
  • Knit angels etc and distribute them to neighbours
  • Gift bags to all church contacts / neighbours
  • Messy church Christmas on zoom - deliver activity packs to families in advance
  • Christmas carol drive-ins in retail car parks and Kempton RacecourseChristmas Carols on our doorstep - national initiatives

Ideas involving singing include:

16 December - doorstepcarols.co.uk  started in the West Midlands, but going national! Website has music and carol words etc
20 December - bigcarolsing.co.uk in Carlisle, website had a step by step guide

There are more ideas and resources on the Baptists Together website here

Get creative this year!

Overall it was great to have 45 people join us from across the country for the webinar and we felt that meeting and sharing stories was so encouraging. Ideas were swapped and the focus on what God is doing among us, lifted us from the gloom of the constant newsfeeds.

Do send your stories of what you are doing this Christmas using this contact form. Visit the Smaller Churches area of our website here.
